Untitled
Wassily Kandinsky
Untitled
1941
This piece was completed at the end of Kandinsky’s career, three years before this death. The painting seems to incorporate many of the elements on which Kandinsky focussed at various stages of his career. While the upper half of the piece is dominated by two large, abstracted shapes subdivided by geometric patterns, the lower half of the piece does appear to have recognisable realistic elements (as in his earlier work), such as a doorway, windows, and hanging plant pots. The untouched brown paper of the background serves to emphasise the bright colours of the shapes and forms.
