The Ten Largest No.6, Adulthood

In this painting abstract shapes dance around each other in a pink, blue, and yellow haze. As part of the series “The Ten Largest”, which represented different phases in life from childhood to old age, this work shows “Adulthood”. The piece is filled with abstract symbols that appear like individual letters in a new language. There are no realistic depictions of “adulthood” to be seen, but the artist has attempted to show this life stage instead through feeling and shape. Her paintings were hugely inspired by mysticism and the supernatural; Klint led a group called “The Five” in which she and four other female artists used their art to explore spiritualism. The flow of her lines suggests a rhythmic and meditative fluidity. Klint is one of the most overlooked figures in art history, having created truly “abstract” works well before any of her male counterparts.
